Trying out ScribeFire

This is a test post using ScribeFire…. a FireFox extension.  I stumbled across it while I was searching for FireFTP (another FireFox extension).  This extension allows you to post to your blog from your FireFox browser.

The Coming Boomer Wave

I read a blog entry by Ramon Padilla on TechRepublic today and I completely agree with his assessment… Everyone seems to be ignoring the fact that within 5 years a large number of employees will be retiring and taking a huge amount of institutional knowledge with them.  The organization I work for has not publicly […]

Exchange Problem Explained

After some further problems with our Exchange infrastructure, we discovered a couple of bad fiber ends on our fiber backbone.  We surmise that this was causing bad packets - and because one of our domain controllers was on the other side of the link, we feel that these bad packets caused corruptions in the Active […]

Exchange Server Hell

When I arrived at work this morning, our Exchange Servers were all not responding.  None of the Information Stores would start - they kept giving errors indicating that the server could not see Active Directory?!?
After much troubleshooting, cursing, hair pulling, and general fit throwing, I called my hired gun, Exchange Guru - Stapleton Technology Partners […]

BlackJack

I just saw the new BlackJack from Samsung… Cingular is carrying it.  I want one!  It is a Windows Mobile 5.0 device loaded with features.  I have Cingular 8125, which is very similar, but the BlackJack is slimmer and doesn’t have the slide out keyboard.  The BlackJack reminds me of the Motorola Q, but not as […]

WildBlue!

Well, I did it.  I got WildBlue.  I like it… the latency is not as bad as I had imagined.  The delay is a lot like working on a heavily loaded connection.  Highly recommend it for those of us wandering in the desert of no-traditional-broadband connectivity.

WildBlue!

I am thinking about getting WildBlue satellite Internet access (reference the Dial-up Sucks! post below).  DSL and cable apparently will not come out to my house.  I have a friend that sells and installs WildBlue and according to him the service is great - if you don’t do any online gaming.

Smartphone

I have a Cingular 8125 phone for my work cellular phone… Since we use Exchange 2003, the 8125 supports the new “Direct Push” syncing technology that is supposed to compete with RIM’s Blackberry.  So far, I have been pleased with the service - the only gripe about the phone is the battery life.  Since the […]

Dial-up Sucks!

I am at home right now writing this post, where I only have dial-up Internet access — It REALLY sucks!  I have a fast 3 meg connection at work (Sprint bonded T-1’s) and working on anything at home really drags after using the work connection.  Come on BellSouth DSL… or maybe cable modem?  No, I […]

Crystal Xcelsius

As part of my group project, I am testing a product called Crystal Xcelsius.  I highly recommend this product.  It allows you to take an Excel spreadsheet and make a flash movie, PowerPoint slide, or PDF.  These can then be embedded in webpages, sent to other users or saved to network drives.  We are using […]
